Now and Then, former Royal Arms, Pantywaun

The former Royal Arms, Pant-y-Waun, Merthyr Tydfil. Not only has the pub disappeared but the entire village of Pant-y-waun has gone as well as the whole village became an open-cast mine, the Royal Arms Opencast in the 1960s, now filled in and the area landscaped with a new road cutting the site of the pub.

Below: Side by side comparison of the 1888 map showing Pont-y-waun and the modern satellite image with the crosshairs marking the position of the former pub.
